ELK RIVER -- Sherburne County commissioners are expected to approve a new policy regulating demonstrations and protests on county property.

County Administrator Steve Taylor says the realized recently they didn't have a policy in place for folks who want to have their voices heard.

Last year protestors demonstrated outside the Sherburne County Government Center during an animal cruelty trial. Taylor said the demonstration was peaceful, but wanted a policy in place to regulate future protests.

Taylor says it's a balancing act to allow people to exercise their First Amendment rights while ensuring access to the county offices for taxpayers.
