WAITE PARK -- A Sauk Rapids man had to be tased following a shoplifting incident this afternoon.

Waite Park Police were called to a store at 2630 Division Street just before 3:00 p.m. Loss prevention officers say the man fled on foot.

A Stearns County Sheriff's deputy spotted 25-year-old Shawn Lees near the Sauk River and tried to arrest him. Lees allegedly fought with the deputy until a Waite Park Police officer tased him. Lees fell into the river and as he was being pulled out, began fighting with the Waite Park officer who then tased him a second time.

Lees was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to be charged with two counts of 4th degree assault. He also had a Waite Park arrest warrant for domestic assault.
