Pirates Down Twins 7-2
The Twins lost 7-2 at Pittsburgh Tuesday night to suffer their 5th loss in their last 6 games. Denard Span hit a 2-run homerun accounting for the lone Twins' runs. Trevor Plouffe was 2-3 for Minnesota. Scott Diamond allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Twins. Kevin Correia threw 5 shutout innings with 4 hits allowed to get the win for the Pirates.
The Twins are 26-40 and will play at Pittsburgh again tonight at 6:05, pregame on WJON at 5:35. Lefthander Francisco Liriano (1-7) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and lefthander Erik Bedard (4-7) toes the rubber for Pittsburgh.
Twins catcher Joe Mauer did not play Tuesday night but was available to pinch hit. He is suffering through a bruised right quadricep muscle. Twins closer Matt Capps was unavailable Tuesday night with right shoulder inflammation. The Twins are expecting him back soon.
