ST. CLOUD -- Health officials have some reminders for you to avoid taking a trip to the emergency room during this heat wave.

St. Cloud Hospital ER Nurse Shay Bolton says it starts with staying hydrated.  Drink plenty of fluids including water and sport drinks.

But, she says there are other ways to protect yourself like finding shade, avoiding being in the direct sun between 10:00 and 2:00 when the sun is at its peak and take frequent breaks from the heat.  Also, wear sunscreen, hats and light-protective clothing.Bolton also suggests going to the beach, pool or splash pad where you and your children can cool off.

If you start feeling sick, dizzy or cramping get out of the heat immediately. Bolton says if your condition doesn't improve once you move into a cool place, you'll want to see a doctor.
