MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A 26-year-old Stillwater man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and rape in connection with last summer's standoff at a Woodbury motel.

Washington County Attorney Pete Orput says Demetrius Ballinger pleaded guilty Thursday. He will face about 36 years in prison when sentenced in October.

Orput says he's pleased to bring closure to the victims of Ballinger's "heinous acts." Authorities say Ballinger was at a party at a room in the Red Roof Inn last August when it turned violent. He held 11 people hostage and raped four teenage girls at gunpoint.

Authorities say when one man, Mark Henderson, tried to leave, Ballinger fired at him. Police thought Henderson was armed and they fired, killing him. Henderson was unarmed. A grand jury decided not to indict the officers involved.
