Massive Crowd Turns Out for Free Tone Loc Concert in Rochester (VIDEO)

Huge Free Concert in Rochester, Minnesota Brought Out The Crowds (and Dancers) on Sunday!

On Sunday, August 3rd, the hardworking team with Riverside Music Series successfully brought one of the best concerts to our area for our entire community.

As I was walking to the park behind the Mayo Civic Center, I was already energized because there were a flood of people heading towards the open grassy area just past the Rochester Art Center.  I just knew it was going to be an amazing night.

For a few lucky Y-105FM fans, a few bucket lists were also checked off!  Tone Loc was waiting backstage to meet us, grab some photos, and even a few autographs for the crew.  Kate Klaus Photography was kind enough to grab a quick photo of all of us as we were waiting backstage too.

Before the music started, I had a little moment on stage with the microphone and some fun reminders for fans that Think Bank was giving away a signed guitar by Tone Loc.  Every Sunday during this concert series, a signed guitar is given away...so make sure you get your name in to win those when you show up.

Meet The Artist! - Desdamona and The Orange Goodness

The first band of the night was a huge favorite of mine!

Hip-hop meets indie funk in this powerhouse double bill. Desdamona is one of Minnesota’s most influential spoken word artists and emcees. The Orange Goodness blends raw energy, tight rhythms, and indie-pop color for a sound that's all their own. - City of Rochester website

Meet The Artist! - Tone Loc

The crowd started growing as it was getting closer to the main artist of the night, Tone Loc!

With hits like “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina,” Tone Loc became a trailblazer in the golden age of hip-hop. His gravelly voice and party-starting energy made him an MTV mainstay in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Still touring and electrifying crowds, he brings the boom to Riverside with a set full of classics and charisma. - City of Rochester website

People were dancing in the crowd, and a few were even invited on stage!  I almost felt like I was back at Iowa State University at a dorm floor party.

The crowd showed up to have fun, and I can verify...they did.  :)

Huge Thanks To The Entire Team That Helped Make Riverside Music Series Happen!

The weather was gorgeous.  The bugs stayed away.  The equipment seemed to all be working fine.  People were dancing and our community came together.  But all of this would not have happened if it wasn't for a huge team of people behind the scenes.

If you were behind the scenes, serving food and drinks, standing at a table, helping with games, walking around with the donation buckets, part of the set up or take down crew, the organizers, security, sound, photographers, videographers, or one of the many others who were helping that day...THANK YOU!

I hope you heard the crowd thank you as well on Sunday...but just in case you didn't, I wanted you to know how much you are appreciated.  This amazing night that our community LOVED was because of all that you did behind the scenes.
