There have been multiple reports of animals, pets, and livestock infected with the rabies virus. Once symptoms appear with the rabies virus, it is 100% fatal. Fortunately, there are ways to protect yourself and your animals.

Rabid Cat In Mower County Attacks Children + Family Dog

The Minnesota Board Of Animal Health announced that an unvaccinated outdoor cat on a farm in Mower County test positive for rabies. The cat had contact with two people and several domsestic cats.

They tested the cat after it started acting abnormally. The cat attacked a dog on the property, and scratches were observed. It doesn't appear that the dog was bitten.

The cat also attacked the family's two children. They were bitten by the cat. The owner shot the cat and took the carcass to a vet for testing. The kids received post-exposure treatment on June 29th. The dog remains under observation because it was overdue for a rabies vaccination.
