COLLEGEVILLE -- The iconic Stickwork structure at the St. John's Abbey Arboretum will continue to stand for now.

After careful examination of the structure Saint John's University has decided to let it stand tall for another summer season.

The structure known as "Lean on Me" has been in the process of decay since it was built and was scheduled to be demolished this month.

Artist Pat Dougherty, who built the structure in 2012, predicted the structure would last about two years, but because of our winter months it has slowed the decaying process.

Saint John's will continue to monitor the structure on a regular basis. Officials says they are now looking at removing it in the fall.

The Stickwork is open to the public. Saint John's estimates that over 50,000 people have visited the structure and many more have enjoyed it from the roadside.
