UPDATE: Husband of Kira Steger On Trial In Her Death
ST. PAUL (AP) - Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of a St. Paul man accused of killing his wife whose body was found in the Mississippi River more than two months after she disappeared.
Jeffery Trevino's trial began Monday, with questionnaires handed to 54 prospective jurors. Trevino is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old KIra Steger. Her family members say she was trying to leave Trevino when she was killed last February. Authorities say "copious amounts" of blood were found in the couple's home.
The prosecutor says the victim's family opposes any plea deal. Trevino's attorney, John Conrad, says pleading guilty as charged was unacceptable to Trevino.
Jury selection is expected to last two days.
