Gopher Football Fans Will Be Looking To The Skies Before Saturday’s Game
MINNESOTA 'U OF M' FOOTBALL GAME EXCITEMENT!
On Saturday, October 26th, 2024 Four F-16C
Fighting Falcons are scheduled to perform a flyover at the University of Minnesota Football game!
I've never actually seen a flyover in person, but this would be a great opportunity. Plus there are two pilots with Minnesota connections.
FLINT & SLAB
According to a press release, the four-ship of F-16s are made up of active duty US Air Force pilots. US Air Force Col. Kevin "Flint" Hicok, Shaw Air Force Base installation commander and commander of the 20th FIgher Wing in Sumter, South Carolina, will be one of them.
That's special because Hicok received his commission as a distinguished Air Force ROTC program graduate from the University of Minnesota in 2001.
He's got a big job, too. He is in charge and responsible for the mission readiness of 79 aircraft and the health and well-being of 8,000 active duty Airmen and civilians. He also provides support to 31,000 local military retirees and 29 geographically separated units across nine states.
There is another graduate of the University of Minnesota in the formation as well. US Air Force Major Robert 'Slab' Ritchie.
TOP GUN
The closest I've ever been to an F-16 is in a movie theatre watching Top Gun, which by the way, makes you feel like you're actually in one. I have such a fear of heights I'm not sure I could ever get used to flying one, but for those who have a dream of flying, I can't imagine the thrill they must feel having the opportunity to be chosen to fly one.
