ST. CLOUD (AP) — Republicans have endorsed St. Cloud business owner Tama Theis in the race for the vacated House District 14A seat.

The GOP had seven rounds of voting Saturday. The final ballot came down to Theis and John Severson, a former St. Cloud City Council member.

They were vying for the House seat formerly held by Rep. Steve Gottwalt. He resigned Monday after taking a job with a company that lobbies the Legislature.

His seat will be filled in a special election Feb. 12. If a special primary is needed it will be held Jan. 29.

DFLer Joanne Dorsher has filed to run in the special election.

Theis owns a remodeling company. She touted her conservative values by saying she opposes abortion and same-sex marriage.
