Fewer Security Officers Means Longer Wait At MSP

    MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Fewer security screeners and increased peak time travel has prompted Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to issue a new advisory.

Airport officials say travelers are urged to arrive 2 1/2 hours before their domestic flight, extending the old advisory by a-half hour. Airport spokesman Patrick Hogan says there have been too many people that have missed their flights recently.

Hogan says the biggest reason for longer security lines is staffing changes at the federal Transportation Security Administration. Fewer security checkpoints are open and there aren't as many TSA personnel working to screen passengers.

Hogan says two other reasons are that air travel has increased 6 percent from last year and that airlines have condensed more flights into the early morning.
