Ex-Police Chief Found Guilty In Sex Assault

AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) -- A former southern Minnesota police chief has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman he met in a bar last year.

After deliberating for nearly six hours, a Mower County jury on Thursday convicted 43-year-old Jason Mindrup on charges of 2nd- and 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct but acquitted him on a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Reports say that Mindrup is scheduled to be sentenced on February 6th.

Mindrup was police chief of Brownsdale when a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her in his truck after leaving a Waltham bar on August 31st, 2013.

Mindrup denied the accusations.

The defense maintained the victim's testimony was inconsistent. Prosecutors pointed to inconsistencies in Mindrup's testimony.

The Brownsdale City Council voted unanimously to fire Mindrup last November.
