Additional Information
Love history and skiing? Come to Riverside Park, one of St. Cloud’s premiere historic landscapes, on Sunday, January 26, 2020, for a history Nordic (cross-country) ski scavenger hunt tour.
This outdoor winter history Nordic ski will be held in conjunction with the 13th Annual Sons of Norway Barnelopet, a fun free children’s Nordic ski event, and is a partnership project with the following organizations:
• Nordic Club of Central Minnesota sponsored by the Trollheim Lodge of the
Sons of Norway Chapter 1-511
• Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota
• Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club
• Southeast St. Cloud Neighborhood Preservation Coalition
• Rethos
Established in 1910 to take advantage of St. Cloud’s location along the Mississippi River, Riverside Park features spectacular views of the Beaver Islands and a design inspired by Frederick Law Olmsted’s Central Park in New York City. Significantly improved and developed during the New Deal-era of the 1930s and early 1940s, Riverside Park is part of the newly established Southeast St. Cloud New Deal-Built Landscapes Historic District. Check your knowledge of park history, the New Deal-era and the environment during this unique winter event.
Check your knowledge of park history while doing a scavenger hunt along Riverside Park's great Nordic ski trails. Stop by the Riverside Park shelter (1800 Kilian Boulevard Southeast, St. Cloud, MN 56304) to get started. The self-guided Historski is free and will take place during the two following one hour sessions occurring before and after the youth ski races which start at 1 p.m. during the 13th Annual Sons of Norway Barnelopet (Norwegian for “kid’s race”):
• 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
