He says, being a Perham native, he's driven by many times, but this was his first experience pulling off the interstate. Hepola says he was surprised by its beauty.
We were on campus at St. John's on some trails hiking and biking, at at Lake Sag diving into the water there. We captured absolutely stunning images of this region and what makes it distinct. It's a hidden gem in the state of Minnesota.
Hepola didn't want to reveal too much about the people he interviewed or the places they went.
Hepola brought his film crew to shoot scenes for three days last week.
He says he decided to create the series focused on rural living after moving back to his hometown of Perham.
I started to recognize the value in my hometown, and I started to wonder why I was in such a hurry to leave. I was one of those kids at 18, I had eyes on the big city, and now, at 40-something, married with three little kids, I started to think I love where I grew up.
Season two will have eight episodes, with each episode focused on a different community. The series will launch on Sunday nights, November 2nd through December 21St.
All seven episodes of season one of My Town are available to binge now.
