MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A 34-year-old St. Paul woman is accused of kidnapping a friend's 2-month-old son and trying to pass the baby off as her own.

Thalia Benson was charged in Hennepin County with kidnapping the boy from his Brooklyn Park apartment while everyone was asleep Tuesday.

According to the complaint, police tracked Benson to her apartment in St. Paul. The baby was recovered unharmed.

Benson wanted to convince her boyfriend that she gave birth to the baby and that he was the father.

The baby was found in a vehicle parked outside Benson's apartment being cared for by Benson's boyfriend. He told police that Benson convinced him she was pregnant and had just given birth to his baby.

Benson remains in jail with bail set at $100,000.
