Lindsay Whalen plans to step down as head coach of the Gophers Women's Basketball program, effective immediately.

The Gopher football team defeated Syracuse 28-20 in the Bad Boys Mower Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in New York Thursday. Tanner Morgan replaced an injured Athan Kaliakmanis to throw for a pair of touchdowns.

Minnesota sports teams have had some bad coaches and general managers in their history whether it be the Timberwolves, Vikings, Twins, Wild or University of Minnesota. Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON.

The Gopher football team downed West Virginia 18-6 in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona. Ky Thomas ran for 147 yards and a touchdown and Mar'Keise Irving ran for 131 yards for Minnesota. Tanner Morgan threw for 109 yards for the Gophers.

The Gopher men's hockey team, Gopher football team, SCSU women's basketball team, Granite City Lumberjacks, NDSU Bison football team, SJU football team, and Minnesota Timberwolves all checked one in the win column on Saturday, but the Gopher women's basketball team, SCSU men's hockey team, SCSU men's basketball team, St. Cloud Norsemen, St. Cloud adapted soccer team, and Minnesota Wild all came up short. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings return home to U.S. Bank Stadium to host the NFC North-leading Green Bay Packers Sunday.

The Granite City Lumberjacks and Gopher men's basketball teams both earned solid wins on Friday night. The Gopher men's hockey, St. Cloud State women's basketball, and SCSU men's hockey teams all struck out, and the St. Cloud adapted Soccer CI team came up just short in the opening round of the state tournament. Meanwhile, the Gopher, Bison, and Johnnie football teams, Gopher women's basketball, SCSU men's basketball, St. Cloud Norsemen, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Minnesota Wild will suit up on Saturday.

The St. John's University football team scored a last second touchdown to beat Bethel and win the MIAC Championship in Arden Hills. The Gopher men's hockey and basketball teams, Granite City Lumberjacks, Minnesota Wild, and NDSU football team also came out of their Saturday matchups on top. The SCSU men's hockey team, Golden Gopher football team, St. Cloud Norsemen, and Minnesota Timberwolves were not so lucky. Meanwhile the Gopher men's and women's basketball teams are looking to build on their momentum heading into Sunday's games, and the Minnesota Vikings will travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in what might just be a do or die matchup.

The University of Minnesota men's and women's and SCSU men's basketball teams earned big early-season wins, the Minnesota Timberwolves demolished the Lakers on the road, and the St. Cloud Norsemen, Granite City Lumberjacks, and SCSU men's hockey team all posted big wins on Friday. Meanwhile, the Gopher men's hockey team came up short against Ohio State, and the Minnesota Wild and the Gopher, Bison, and Johnnies football teams prep for their Saturday matchups.

The St. John’s University football team opened up MIAC play with a win over Bethel, and the Granite City Lumberjacks and St. Cloud Norsemen both notched their second wins of the weekend on Saturday. The Twins dropped game three to the Blue Jays, the Wild came up short in their exhibition opener, and the Gophers fell to Bowling Green in Minneapolis on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Lynx are prepping for a single-elimination playoff game against Chicago, and the Vikings look to earn their first win of the season when the Seattle Seahawks come to town on Sunday.

The Minnesota Twin topped Toronto at Target Field, the Granite City Lumberjacks earned their third straight win, and the St. Cloud Norsemen came from behind to beat the Bismarck Bobcats at the MAC.
