Calves Killed in Stearns County Barn Fire

ELROSA - About 25 calves were killed in an early morning barn fire. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says the call came in just before 1:00 a.m. Thursday for a fire on a farmsite on County Road 14 in Spring Hill Township near Elrosa.

The homeowners, Peter and Lisa Wuertz of Melrose, were woken up by a passerby. They opened the gate and released several of the cows trapped inside.

The barn is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were no injuries.
