Xcel Energy officials say they've made great progress in restoring power to a large area of Central Minnesota, hit hard in Friday's storms. But the power's still out for some 2,400 Xcel customers stretching from Sioux Falls to St. Cloud.

Xcel says it's restored power to the vast majority of the 100,000 or so customers who lost power in the storms. The last remaining 500 or so affected customers in the Twin Cities west metro area are expected to have their electricity back up and running by Sunday night.

But Xcel says restoration efforts in some of the hardest-hit areas will take crews into Monday. Crews will be in St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Belview, Bird Island, Hector and Cosmos.

Xcel says Friday's storms caused extensive damage to the utility's power grid in Minnesota.
