Work at State Capitol Pauses for Senator’s Funeral

Gary Kubly (Minnesota State Legislature)

ST. PAUL  (AP) РMost of the legislative business at the Capitol has been called off so lawmakers can attend the funeral of a colleague.

The funeral for state Sen. Gary Kubly will be held Wednesday morning in his hometown of Granite Falls. Kubly, who was 68, died on Friday after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Wednesday in honor of Kubly. Dayton plans to attend the funeral and has also declared Wednesday to be “Gary Kubly Day” in Minnesota.

Kubly was a Lutheran minister in addition to his legislative service. He served three terms in the state House starting in 1996, then moved to the state Senate where he served three terms.
