MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A 27-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to stabbing a Minneapolis woman to death during a fight last year.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman says Yolanda Lynn Smith pleaded guilty to second-degree murder just as her trial was about to get underway.

Smith admitted stabbing 39-year-old Catherine Banks on Aug. 21. She is expected to receive more than 18 years in prison when she's sentenced May 12.

According to the criminal complaint, the two women got into a fight in south Minneapolis. Prosecutors say Smith pulled out a knife and stabbed Banks before fleeing.

Witnesses were able to identify Smith for police, who found her four days later.
