WADENA -- A young woman and a dog are dead after they were struck by a freight train in Wadena.

The Wadena County Sheriff's Office says the pedestrian and the dog were hit by an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train just after 6 p.m. Saturday.

The train stopped after the accident, closing all railroad crossings in the north-central Minnesota town for about three hours.

The name of the woman won't be released until her family is notified.

The railroad is investigating, along with Wadena police and the sheriff's office.
