MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves rookie phenom Karl-Anthony Towns has been named Western Conference player of the week.

This year's first overall pick have been averaging 21.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in the wolves amazing 3-0 road trip, which included victories against playoff teams Golden State and Portland.

Towns knocked down the game-winning shot to beat the Trail Blazers on Saturday night. He also had 20 points and 12 boards in Minnesota's overtime win over the Warriors.

Towns is only the eighth player in franchise history to win the award and the first rookie in the NBA to win the honor since Philadelphia's Michael Carter-Williams in 2013-14.

The Timberwolves will host the Houston Rockets tonight (Monday) which is a must win game for the Rockets playoff hopes.
