COLD SPRING POLICE CHIEF -- Cold Spring City Councilors have picked their interim police chief Jason Blum to take the job permanently. There are still details to work out, but Blum has agreed to take the job.

 

WATKINS HOUSE FIRE -- A fire Tuesday afternoon caused heavy damage to a home in the 600 block of Veterans Drive in Watkins. The cause -- believed to have been electrical. No one was hurt.

 

HOUSING SHORTAGE -- The supply of existing homes for sale in the St. Cloud area was down 27-percent in February compared to year-ago numbers. Why? Experts say Gen Xers are staying in their homes longer trying recapture equity lost in the housing crash. And Baby Boomers aren't moving into smaller homes like they have in the past.

 

SURDYK'S PENALTY -- A lighter penalty for Surdyk's Liquor Store in Northeast Minneapolis that opened for business on Sunday, March 12th -- months before liquor stores can legally be open on Sundays. But instead of a 30-day suspension and 2-thousand dollar fine, the city's new penalty for Surdyk's is a 9-Sunday, 1-Saturday suspension and a bigger fine.

 

TECH HIGH SCHOOL TURNS 100 -- Happy Birthday, Tech! St. Cloud Technical High School turns 100 tomorrow. They'll celebrate, inducting 10 people to the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. And in July, there'll be an "All Class Reunion."

 

SUN COUNTRY PLANE -- Sun Country Airlines is naming one of its planes after St. Cloud's own Lake George. The naming is part of Minnesota-based Sun Country's "Hometown Lakes Project." Every plane in the fleet will be named after a Minnesota lake.
