At WJON, we're proud of the local businesses that do business in our community. Frequently, there's more to a business than just what you hear in a 30 or 60 second commercial. Which is why we offer and expanded peek inside local businesses with the Business Spotlight.

We bring the business owners on with us and talk about the history, the intricacies and services they offer. We also try to pass on the wealth of knowledge the owners have acquired over the years.

In many cases these are people you know casually, or you have been a loyal customer, but never had the chance to ask the owners about the whole business.

The Business Spotlight offers you a chance to get to know them better. You can listen on air for them or return here periodically to catch up on the podcasts we publish.

This week I talked with Dr Burt Dubow of Insight Eyecare. As school days fast approach for most of us, you might not think about the importance of getting your child's eyes checked before the roll into class. But according to Dr. Dubow, it's vital to their success in school. He says while the assessments done in the schools are good, they're by no means complete, and can often miss subtle clues to a bigger problem.

We also talked about the right age for exams, and contact lenses.

He also dispelled a myth about NOT wearing your glasses.
