ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Is the wait to decide on a special session over?

Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders are meeting for another round of negotiations. They're nearing the self-imposed deadline for an early February emergency session to extend unemployment benefits for steelworkers, bringing Minnesota in compliance with a federal driver's license law and tackling racial economic disparities.

Dayton and fellow Democrats are pressing for a special session soon as Iron Range miners are exhausting state unemployment. Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt says he thinks it can wait until the Legislature's scheduled March 8 return.

It's been more than two months in the making. The effort lost steam this month when the federal government announced Minnesota would have until 2018 to upgrade licenses to board domestic flights.
