ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – A Wisconsin teenager who suffered a heart attack on a ski slope is calling a Minnesota sheriff’s deputy his hero.

Seventeen-year-old snowboarder Dan Mannon was in line for a chairlift at Minnesota’s Afton Alps on Saturday when he collapsed.

Mannon happened to be standing next to Washington County sheriff’s Deputy Shane Linehan. Linehan kicked off his skis, checked Mannon for a pulse and found none.

Linehan and ski instructor Kevin Neubauer began CPR immediately. Afton Alps general manager Joe Yasis arrived with a defibrillator, which shocked Mannon’s heart back into action.

Mannon was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Reports say the teen and his parents Tuesday thanked the men who saved him.

Without Linehan’s action, Mannon says he “wouldn’t be here right now.”
