ST. CLOUD - Winter Hazard Awareness Week continues today with the topic of winter fire safety.

As you cook, heat your home and decorate for the holidays the threat of a house fire increases.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says higher costs in heating and other fuel utilities have caused some Americans to find alternative ways of heating their homes.

They advise that the use of wood burning stoves and space heaters be used with caution. Stove top cooking should be monitored at all times.

They say holiday light decorations can also be a significant fire hazard.
