WINONA (AP) - A 39-year-old man suspected of shooting a woman is under arrest after a chase and standoff in southeastern Minnesota.

The suspect, who's from Canton, was arrested without incident Friday after a half-hour standoff south of Winona.

Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen says the 49-year-old Preston woman was in surgery. Her condition was unknown.

Jensen says a Rushford police officer spotted the suspect's truck and chased the man into Winona County.

After other squad cars joined the chase, the man stopped his truck and eventually got out, unarmed, with his hands up. He was handcuffed and taken back to Fillmore County, where charges are pending.

Fillmore Central School District schools were briefly locked down as a precaution because authorities didn't know where the man was.
