Wildfire Prompts Evacuations in NW Minnesota Town
KARLSTAD (AP) -- Some residents are being evacuated from Karlstad as a growing wildfire threatens the northwestern Minnesota town.
Karlstad City Clerk Sue Dufault says a nursing home, a school and some residents in the southern part of town are being evacuated to the nearby town of Hallock.
No injuries are reported.
A spokeswoman for the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center, Jean Goad, says authorities ordered the Karlstad evacuation when the fire reached a "trigger point" near the town.
Goad says the Minnesota National Guard sent two Blackhawk helicopters to help fight the fire and a Chinook helicopter was on the way.
Crews were fighting eight fires in northwestern Minnesota as of Tuesday morning, and the number was growing.
