The Minnesota Wild defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 Tuesday night at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Wild move into the sixth spot in the Western Conference with the win.

Nino Niederreiter scored for Minnesota at 16:04 of the first period on a power play to give the Wild a 1-0 lead. The goal, scored from close range, was assisted by Jared Spurgeon and Jason Zucker.

After neither team scored in the second period, Dany Heatley scored the eventual game-winning goal for Minnesota just :34 into the third period, assisted by Jared Spurgeon.

Tampa Bay made it interesting with a Valtteri Flippula goal at 13:53, but Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper made 12 of his 34 saves in the third period to secure the win.

The Wild host Nashville Thursday night in their last game before the Olympic break.
