ST. CLOUD -- Steve Hennes, the longtime director of the Whitney Senior Center is retiring.

Hennes took over the job in 1981 and has overseen it's growth with expansions in 1986 and again in 1995.

Hennes says it was time to step down and spend more time with family. But, he hopes the city finds a new director and continues to fund the center.  He cites figures showing our senior citizen population going from 12% to 20% in the next 10 years.

Hennes, who is also a Sartell City Council member, will continue in that role for now.

His last day on the job at the Whitney Senior Center is tomorrow. There is a public reception and farewell open house in Clemens Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
