Watch The Quarry Park Derrick In Action On Sunday

WAITE PARK - The 100-year old wooden Liberty Derrick will be will be on display this Sunday at the Quarry Park and Nature Preserve.

The derricks were the main equipment for lifting huge blocks of granite from a quarry floor to a loading dock at the quarry surface.

Stearns County Parks will operate the 10-ton capacity derrick to demonstrate the process.  You can watch the demonstrations at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.  You'll also be able to check out the operation shack and talk to the staff.

It's been 50-years since a derrick has been operated by a granite company at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve.

Parking at the park will be free on Sunday.
