Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley for Walter “Wally” H. Johnson, age 80, who passed away Thursday at his home. Rev. Jerome Naduvathaniyil, OSB will officiate and burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Eden Valley. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Wally was born May 26, 1934 in Manannah Township to Raymond & Isabelle (Arnold) Johnson. He graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Wally married Ruth Scrimshaw on Aug. 3, 1968 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Brainerd. They moved to Eden Valley in 1974. He worked as a postal clerk for the USPS in Minneapolis for 33 years, retiring in 1990. Wally was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and a former member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where he served on the parish council. He was also a member of Eden Valley American Legion Post #381 and Litchfield Knights of Columbus Council #2029. Wally enjoyed farming, antique tractors, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a generous, caring, kind, gentle, forgiving, humble person with a great sense of humor. Wally was a person of faith, he lived his faith!

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Eden Valley; children, Fred (Anno) Johnson of Eden Valley, Susan (Travis) Bischof of New Richmond, WI, and Margie (Mike) Tracy of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Bradley, Emily, Dylan, Grant, Zach, Brooke and Caleb; sisters and brothers, Margaret (Gene) Drabek of Bloomington, Richard (Gloria) Johnson of Grand Rapids, Robert (Gail) Johnson of Buffalo, Kathy (Jerry) Schwankl of Eden Prairie, Alice (Bob) Schreifels of Cold Spring and Ann (Ed) Fuchs of New Hope; and many nieces and nephews.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Mary Rose; and nephews, Warren and Wayne Schreifels.
