ST. CLOUD -- The United Way of Central Minnesota is celebrating their annual Day of Caring today (Thursday).

More than 350 volunteers are out in the community helping with projects like painting, gardening and more.

Most of the volunteers were given the day off from work to help give back to the community.

This morning the United Way held  a kick-off breakfast at 7:30 a.m. to get the group excited for the long day ahead.

Jessica Johnson says the volunteers will be doing about $25,000 worth of work during the Day of Caring.

Madison Elementary volunteers spent the morning gardening and landscaping. All of the plants were donated by local businesses and members of the community.

Lucy Garding spent her morning gardening at Madison. She says she's been participating in Day of Caring for about ten years and has helped with many different projects including painting and staining decks.

Volunteers also stopped out the Country Manor to spend time with the residents during their Afternoon In Vegas event.
