Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday, April 13, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sauk Rapids for Violet “Vi” Murphy, age 82, of Sauk Rapids, who died peacefully surrounded by her family at Sterling House of Sauk Rapids. Rev. Ralph Zimmerman will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Sunday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Vi Murphy was born March 30, 1933 to Paul & Rose (Winkelman) Hinkemeyer in Sherburne County. She married Jack Murphy on May 24, 1952 at The Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. Vi lived in Sauk Rapids most of her life. She was in the 4-H club, where she met her husband, Jack, and she also served as a leader. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Monica’s Society, Duelm Mission Group, and she also owned and operated Rapids Alterations until 1996.

Vi enjoyed sewing, baking, bowling, playing cards, especially 500, but family was her primary love and joy. She attended the activities of her kids and grandkids, and participated along with them if she could (like hunting and softball), attended stock-car races, and loved to watch the Minnesota Twins.

Vi will be remembered for being a selfless person with a loving attitude who supported her children as they navigated through life and in all cases had an optimistic attitude, provided support, encouragement, and unconditional love to her large and extended family. She instilled the virtues of family, faith, and fun in everyone she met; there was never a dull moment around her. Most importantly, Vi will be remembered for being a devoted wife, a supportive, encouraging mother, and a most beloved Grandma. She gave us all “roots” and “wings” in life, and left an imprint of love on her family’s hearts.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Sherry Krenz of Colorado Springs, CO, Deb Lechner of Sauk Rapids/Vienna, Austria, Becky (Warren) Christie of Sauk Rapids, Tim (Beth) Murphy of Colorado Springs, CO, Joe (Suzanne) Murphy of Becker, and Brian Murphy of Colorado Springs, CO; 13 grandchildren, Tracey, Travis (Heather), Tyler, Tara; Zach (Hannah), Drew (Jaclyn); Jeremy (Denise), Amber (Kelly); Sarah, Derek (Christine); Matt (Rachel), Samantha, Chase; 12 great grandchildren, Rachael, Colton, Maquel, Isabelle, Luke; Reese, Kennady; Lauren, Jackson, Teddy; Taryn, Grayson; and 1 great great grandchild, Zaylen; brothers and sisters, Geneva (Jim) Reimer, Glen (JoAnn) Hinkemeyer, both of Sauk Rapids, Clyde (Sandy) Hinkemeyer, sister-in-law, Mardelle Hinkemeyer, both of Foley, Janice (Pat) Kipka, brother-in-law, Carl Lien, both of Sauk Rapids. Vi also leaves behind many other caring relatives and friends.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, parents, sons-in-law, Bill Krenz and Leon Lechner; infant great grandson, Carsen, brothers, Otto, Marvin, and Danny Hinkemeyer; and sister, Anita Lien

The family wishes to thank all those who lovingly cared for her these last few years, especially the staff of Sterling House in Sauk Rapids, and more recently the St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care given to Vi and her family.
