Vikings Bill Gets First Capitol Hearing

ST. PAUL  (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings are finally getting the chance to make their case for public financing of a new football stadium before a state Senate committee.

The Senate Local Government and Elections committee holds a Wednesday afternoon hearing on the stadium bill. The plan under consideration calls for the state, the city of Minneapolis and the team to partner on a $975 million stadium at the current Metrodome site.

It's the first legislative hearing on a proposal that's facing an uncertain fate at the Capitol this year. The bill will have to clear multiple House and Senate committees and floor votes in both chambers as well as get support from the Minneapolis City Council.
