MINNEAPOLIS --Veteran Twin Cities television anchor Diana Pierce is retiring.

Pierce announced her retirement from KARE-TV on Wednesday. Her last day will be April 22.

Pierce joined the NBC affiliate in 1983 as a news anchor. Most recently she has been co-anchoring the 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. news.

Pierce will graduate from Augsburg College later this month with a master's degree. She says she has been looking for new challenges.

She started her career in radio in New Hampshire before moving to television, working at stations in Durham, New Hampshire; Fresno, California; and Norfolk, Virginia.

While at KARE, Pierce co-anchored with Paul Magers. The two worked together for 20 years until Magers left for Los Angeles in 2003.

Pierce was inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2009.
