Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, St. Cloud for Verlia L. Koopmeiners, age 80 of Lakeville formerly of Waite Park who passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 in Burnsville. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.

Verlia was born September 17, 1934 in Greenwald, Minnesota to Albert and Marina (Hansen) Winning. She married Berthold H. “Bert” Koopmeiners on March 2, 1957 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Greenwald. After their marriage the couple lived in St. Cloud until moving to the Twin Cities in 1961. The family moved to Hurst, Texas from 1978 until moving to Burnsville in 1984, Bert and Verlia retired to Waite Park in 1998. She moved to Lakeville in 2014 to be closer to her children. Verlia was a Nursing Assistant, Day Care Provider, Nanny and Homemaker. She was a member of St. John Cantius Parish and Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Unit #428 Auxiliary.

Verlia enjoyed genealogy, trips to the casinos, reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, collecting coins, puzzles, Sunday drives, bargain shopping, traveling and collecting porcelain dolls.

Verlia is survived by her children, Bruce (Marge) of North St. Paul, Brad of Shakopee, Amy Jo (David) Bassett of Lakeville; six grandsons, Daniel and Jeremy Koopmeiners, Joshua, Tyler, Nathan and Alex Bassett; two sisters, Leola (Ken) Patz of Mound and Cindy (Bob) Coolbroth of Spicer; sister-in-law, Donna Winning

(Michael) Trade of Baldwin, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.
Verlia was preceded in death by her parents; husband on December 15, 2005; infant son, Bryan; brothers, Charles and Gary; and sister, Alvera Meyer.
