MANKATO (AP) - Verizon Wireless is adding more than 160 jobs at its call center in Mankato.

Verizon hopes to fill all the positions by the end of July, increasing employment at the call center by nearly one-third. Verizon spokeswoman Marie McVenes says that with new devices on the market, there's an increase in the number of customers calling.

New employees start at a base pay of $28,000. Verizon says it's willing to pay a $1,000 signing bonus. Health care coverage begins on the first day of employment.

Verizon also actively recruits military veterans. Verizon says the veterans' skills add value to the company.
