PALMER TOWNSHIP -- No one was hurt after a Chevy Silverado pickup broke through thin ice in Palmer Township last night.

The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Chayse Barrett of Zimmerman and his passenger were able to escape after they broke through the ice between Rush and Briggs Lake. The incident happened in a lake channel at about 5:30 p.m.

Barrett told authorities he was unfamiliar with the poor ice conditions between the lakes that make it impassable for vehicles throughout the winter.

The truck broke through in about three feet of water and needed a tow to be removed.
