Van Driver Hits, Kills Bicyclist in Minneapolis

   MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a van in Minneapolis.

According to police, a van struck a parked car, careened onto a sidewalk and pinned the bicyclist underneath it at about 9:50 p.m. Monday.

The fire department had to use an extrication device to lift the van off the victim, who was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.

Police say preliminary information indicates alcohol may have been a factor. The 49-year-old van driver was arrested.

The medical examiner has not yet released the victim's identity.
