The USA bats failed to appear in a loss to Mexico at the World Baseball Classic in Arizona Friday night. 

Team USA could only manage five singles through the games first seven innings in a 5-2 loss to Mexico in a WBC opening round game Friday night.

Adrian Gonzalez took USA starter R.A. Dickey deep for a home run early in the game, and Yovani Gallardo pitched three-plus strong innings for Mexico. Ryan Braun and Eric Hosmer had RBI for USA.

Two Twins appeared in the game for USA. Joe Mauer was 2-4 with two singles and two strikeouts. Glen Perkins pitched one inning, relieving Dickey in the fifth inning. The lefty threw one inning and allowed one run on one hit with one walk allowed.

The United States will try to bounce back against surprising Italy Saturday night.
