MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A proposed policy that deals with transgender student-athletes in high school sports in Minnesota is generating a heavy response from those on both sides of the issue.

The Minnesota State High School League says some board members have received more than 400 emails on the policy since Sunday when the Minnesota Child Protection League ran a full page newspaper ad warning that boys would be allowed to shower with girls in the locker room.

League spokesman Howard Voigt says the email and voicemail responses have come down on both sides of the policy. It's supported by the state teachers union.

The Minnesota Catholic Conference and the Minnesota Family Council will present a petition in opposition to the board Wednesday. A vote on the policy is expected Thursday.
