COLD SPRING (AP) - A police officer assigned to ROCORI Public Schools has been placed on paid administrative leave days after a student brought a loaded handgun to the middle school.

Cold Spring City Administrator Paul Hetland says that Officer Dave Sutherland was placed on leave last Friday after an anonymous complaint.

Officials can't release the nature of the complaint during their investigation, but Hetland says Sutherland's leave is related to his overall performance - not just the April 11 incident in which a seventh-grader brought a loaded handgun and ammunition to ROCORI Middle School.

A home listing for Sutherland was unavailable and he could not be reached for comment.

In 2003, ROCORI High School was the scene of a shooting in which two students died. The shooter remains in prison.
