LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities are still trying to contact the man suspected of shooting and critically wounding a police officer in southeastern Minnesota.

Lake City police identify the suspect as 25-year-old Alan Sylte Jr. of Hager City, Wis.

Police believe Sylte is still in a house surrounded by officers in Lake City, but they have not been able to contact him. So they are warning residents that Sylte is considered armed and dangerous, and not to approach him.

Sylte is 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, with blue eyes and short blond hair. He was last seen wearing a short-sleeved, light-colored shirt.

The officer was shot after responding to a domestic call about 8:30 a.m. Monday. The officer was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
