ANOKA (AP) - A 16-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car while crossing an Anoka highway on foot after she mistakenly reported to work.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the accident happened Monday about 7:40 p.m. as the girl tried to cross Highway 10. The Anoka County Sheriff's Department identifies her Tuesday as 16-year-old Hannah Alea Craft of Ramsey.

Craft's mother says the girl had reported to her job at McDonald's, but learned she wasn't scheduled so started back home. Lakeisha Craft says her daughter crossed the highway "a million and one times."

The Minnesota State Patrol says she did not cross at a controlled intersection. Lt. Eric Roeske says pedestrians should always use crosswalks, especially on highways and high-speed roads.
