UPDATE: Main Break Disrupts Minneapolis Water Service

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis officials say water pressure is back to normal for most residents and businesses after a break in a 3-foot water main flooded downtown streets.

Officials say the water is safe to drink.

About a half-dozen buildings near Thursday's break are still without water service. Crews will work through the night to repair the ruptured transmission line.

Around 2:30 p.m., private contractors working on a development project struck and ruptured a line that delivers water to a large part of Minneapolis. City crews isolated the broken water main, so water pressure has returned to normal.

About 14 million gallons of water flowed out of the system.
