ST. AUGUSTA -- Deputies have identified the two men suspected in the Wednesday shooting in St. Augusta.

Police say 30-year-old Erik Magnuson of St. Cloud and 21-year-old Jerod Jakel of Sauk Rapids have admitted to their involvement of the shooting.

Deputies say the two men drove to a St. Augusta home to collect money owed to them.

While inside, Jakel confronted the victim with a gun.  A struggle over the handgun followed. It went off, striking the victim in the stomach. The men left with two bags of methamphetamine.

Officers later stopped their car in St. Joseph and searched the vehicle. Police found evidence from the shooting in the car, including a sawed-off shotgun and methamphetamine.

Police say the two admitted to throwing the gun used in the assault out the window and where to find it.

Jakel and Magnuson were booked into the Stearns County Jail on 1st Degree Assault charges.

Deputies are investigating whether the two men are linked to other crimes in the area.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
