ALBANY - Fire officials still don't know what started an apartment fire in Albany late Monday night.

Fire Chief Dean Mitchell says they know the fire started in one of the nine apartment units, but the cause remains undetermined.  He says the building is a total loss, but he's not releasing a damage estimate.

Mitchell describes the fire is the biggest ever in Albany, in terms of the number of people affected.  About 20 residents were living in the building, and lost all of their belongings.

The Red Cross is helping them with food, clothing and shelter.  The Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albany is also accepting cash and clothing donations.

The building is an old creamery that had been converted in apartments.

The fire started at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday.
